panoramic imaging is more

IVRPA at Photokina 2008

The International Virtual Reality Photography Association is an association of more than 400 panoramic photographers world-wide.

At this year's Photokina, the IVRPA presents a breathtaking exhibition of panorama photography in different forms; from panoramic prints and high resolution gigapixel panoramas to interactive 360 degree panoramas. The IVRPA organises workshops covering different topics of panoramic photography at the IVRPA booth, each day at 13:00 and 15:00.

During the show, IVRPA members will be shooting and uploading interactive 360 degree panoramas from all over the Photokina floor. These images are shown below, and more are added as the show unfolds.

After resisting for several days to the magnetic force fields coming from Hall 3 mainly because of the much hyped Canon 5D Mark II, I stopped resisting and went there!

Unfortunately Lomo picked the wrong band to put on stage, look at the amount of digital devices just to make some noise... I guess some classic guitar players or choir singers would be more apropriate for an analogue show!

To attract a bigger crowd, the booth included a (non-CGI) car in a light-stage sort-of sphere. It was good to see that my dome was not the only dome that was a bit wonky ;-)

These two visitors of the IVRPA were the last two to experience the dome theater at the booth. After they left, the dome was turned off, and later dismantled. It was not easy to turn off the projection, after all the energy I had put into getting the dome up and running (twice!).

GE Cameras had this big, almost empty booth with a racing car in the center. Unfortunately the great cylinder banner on the ceiling had no images! I guess they didn't hear about IVRPA members doing gigapixel images. Maybe for the next time...
